Animal Medical Center of Holly Springs offers the vaccination of dogs and cats as a routine service. The health of your pets is our number one priority, and keeping them vaccinated against the most common dog and cat illnesses is part of that process. Vaccinating is a quick and simple process, and can be completed as part of a wellness checkup or another type of routine appointment.
Core vs. Non-Core Vaccinations
Core vaccinations for dogs and cats are those vaccines that protect against the most common viruses they are likely to encounter in the Woodstock, GA area.
Non-core vaccinations are ones that we may recommend for some pets, based on their lifestyle (if they are an outdoor pet, for example) and other factors. Non-core vaccination of dogs and cats is entirely optional.
Vaccination of Dogs
These are the core vaccines that we provide for dogs, in addition to the Rabies vaccine:
- Parvovirus
- Leptospirosis
- Distemper
- Bordetella (kennel cough)
The canine influenza vaccine is a non-core shot that we may recommend for your pet, based on his or her lifestyle.
Vaccination of Cats
These are the core vaccines that we provide for cats:
- FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia)
- Rabies
The feline leukemia vaccine is a non-core option that the veterinarian may recommend for your cat, depending on risk factors.
Benefits of Vaccination of Dogs & Cats
The primary benefit of the vaccination of dogs and cats is that it protects them from catching an illness that can threaten their life. Just because you have an “inside cat” or “inside dog” does not mean that they have no chance of catching the common diseases that vaccines protect them from. For example, parvovirus lives in grass, soil, puddles, snow, leaves or sidewalks. Owners can go for a walk outside and end up carrying the parvovirus into their home on their shoes — and then their dog needs an emergency trip to the vet.
Many professional pet services also require proof of vaccination for owners to take advantage of them, such as pet grooming services and pet boarding facilities. We provide the paperwork you need for this when your pet is vaccinated at our medical center.
